What is PowerLock? PowerLock is the "front door" to your Macintosh. It is an easy to use start up application that can be completely configured and customised to suit
your own personal needs. It helps prevent unauthorised people from using your Macintosh.
Installing PowerLock:
PowerLock now comes with an Auto-Install feature (for System 7 Users only). Just start it up and click the Auto-Install button. System 6 users should follow these instructions:
1. Make a copy of PowerLock before doing anything.
2. Put PowerLock into a folder on your hard disk - it’s recommended you use a separate folder for PowerLock.
3. Start PowerLock by double-clicking, making sure to hold the option key down until you see an alert. This lets PowerLock know that you’ve read the instructions and also sets the default password to 'PowerLock'.
4. You’ll see a message explaining what to do next. Take note of the message, then click OK. PowerLock will now quit. Here are the details of what to do next:
5. Select the PowerLock icon by single-clicking.
6. Choose "Set Startup..." from the Special menu.
7. Make sure the button labelled “PowerLock” is selected.
8. Click OK.
9. Restart your Macintosh.
10. Enter the default PowerLock password - "PowerLock". You'll be taken to the "Change Password" dialog. Follow the prompts to change the password to your preferred password.
System 7 users who wish to manually install PowerLock should read the appendix in the Manual for full details.
Licence Information
Full details of PowerLock licencing and distribution arrangements can be found in the manual. In short, PowerLock is a combination of PostCardWare and ShareWare. You may use one copy at your home for the price of a Postcard. To use it at or on any other premises requires registration. The Registration Fee is $25 with discounts available for educational institutes, students and bulk purchases.
